my 11 month old black austrolorp has a very large tumor on her breast. Feathers around are falling out, she looks very stressed, poor color, but other girls in coop are fine. She is on back porch now. Thing is I just noticed it today and it's huge. Up until the snow fell I was holding my Prissy almost everyday. I'm new to chickens and am worried I am missing something. Has anyone ever experienced this?

have not seen it in chickens...I have had rats with this issue...I put them down fast to prevent suffering...chemo for pets isn't an option for me...it might be an infection...you could take a syringe and needle and try to draw out what is inside the bulge (if it felt squishy)

Might she have an impacted crop?? You can do a search at the top of this page & see if that helps you. Otherwise...

Is the lump just on the right side? If so, probably a full crop.

Chickens can get cancer, bit the on I'm familiar with strikes hens that have been laying for awhile

Thanks for the advice. It was an impacted crop but was so large I couldn't get it all up with home remedies and didn't think I was quite ready to do surgery. Took her to the vet but she died, probably from the anesthesia. Next time I'll do it at home.

Sorry to hear, that she died.

The fact that you took her to the vet shows that you are an enormous devoted chicken owner. Not everybody would have done this.
Maybe her death was for a reason and in case something like this happens again, it will help you to help your chickens faster.
