Cancer or Picked on???? Help

Looks like Pox to me also, there also appears to be some infection in and around the eye, treat accordingly.

Thank you for everyone's suggestions. The roo only picks on her at roosting time. They free range all day, and he seems to leave her alone until the sun starts going down.

As for it being pox, We have seperated her, I cleaned her up, but I will definitely take the advice for the eye wash, her eye SOOOO mucky this morning. I dont like to give antibiotics unless necessary but I'm VERY worried about her one eye. It's not good.

I will also put some wonder dust on her wounds away from her eye. If you've never used it,,, its awesome. Keeps flies away and dries the wounds right out. It also keeps the others from picking at them because its ash, and they dont like the taste.



She is definitely only of our sweetest most quiet hens, I was so worried it might be cancer. I'm so relieved no one thinks so.

I have one more with it,,,, I just went thru everyone, It's my bantam BR, his pox look just like the pics in the examples here on BYC. I cleaned them and put neosporin.

I'd better get a jump on this.

If you do give antiibiotics make sure you finish the recommended amount of time, not one day less. To help her out even more on the nutrition side get some Poly Vi Sol baby vitamins (without iron) and give her 2 drops in the morning and 2 drops at night for at least 2 weeks.

I understand that you love her but you might want to consider re-homing her if the rooster is that harsh to her. She's a mess the poor dear.

It will likely travel through your whole flock. It is not dangerous unless they develop the "wet" pox inside their mouths and throats, or they develop a secondary infection.

My bantam had a bubbly, runny eye for several days with her pox, along with huge lesions on her tiny face. It was so sad! I pampered her a lot and most days would bring her in and just snuggle her on my lap and she'd sleep, she felt so poorly. I treated her (and my other 2 girls) to a round of Duramycin in their drinking water for 10 days, and everyone came out the other side none the worse for wear.

Keep the rooster away from her until her lesions heal (might be a couple weeks) then once she is healed, see if you still notice him picking at her. Do you know if he's always picked at her, or did he just start since she started with these lesions?

Thanks for the advice, this weekend I cleaned her wounds a couple of times a day and the swelling started to come down, I will definitely keep her on a round of antibiotics for the 10 days. I'm really careful with that kind of stuff. I try not to give them antibiotics except when needed. Her eye is so bad, she really needed some. I do have her confined and she seems to be happy being left alone to rest.

The rooster only tries to bother her at night, he is the outcast of the roos. I keep a pretty good eye on him. If he becomes to much of a problem, he will be the one to go.

It is pox, the others are starting to get it. They all look good and I'm keeping a really close eye on them. I'm worried about my baby chicks. I couldnt find the vaccine for the young ones at my local feed store, so, I'm still looking.
