candeling

Candling is not harmful to hatch rates.

I candle eggs once a week by candling every egg in my incubators. I candle to find infertile eggs. I candle older eggs to find chick embrios that have stopped developing. By doing this, I can dispose of all eggs that will not hatch, thus freeing up the space for more eggs in my overworked Little Giant incubators

The earliest I have been able to see development is 5 days. You can really candle at any stage. I do it every 5 days, but not after eighteenth day, that could hurt chick. As long as you do it quick enough to where it is not cold, when you candle egg make sure you ALWAYS have CLEAN HANDS handle egg with care and don't shake it too much. Good luck

I agree with the above poster, just make sure you have clean hands before you start candling. I candle at seven days, 14 days and then right before lockdown.
