This is my first time. I have brown eggs and fixing to be on day five in my incubator. What is the best way to candle brown eggs? Also my temp got up to 106 for about 8 hours. Will the eggs be ok?

Use as bright a light source as possible to candle and ideally wait til day 7or 8 because the viability will be easier to see. As for that temp spike, it could have compromised your eggs. Is your incubator still or forced air? 106 in a forced air is quite high and for 8 hours, your hatch rate might suffer. I would wait another couple of days and try to candle them. If you don't have a proper candling device, the best light I have found is the small light on the back of a smart phone if you have a flashlight app. It is a very small, concentrated light source that illuminates the egg very well.

My incubator is still. I have tried my light on my phone. I am having trouble on the brown eggs.

I would wait until day 10 or if there’s a bad odor coming from the bator. I’ve had some brown eggs of various shades and didn’t have trouble using my phone light. Were you in complete darkness? Try a small LED flashlight.

Yes we were in complete darkness. I will try again at day 10. Thanks

Welcome Cdgreen! Glad to have you here at BYC!

Eight hours at 106 degrees is a concern. I hope your eggs pull through!
