i have 6 silver wyandotte and 6 araucana eggs in the incubator and 4looks like they are duds, should i leave it a bit longer, they are 4 days at the moment.

can you get a picture of the eggs? how long have they looked like duds

i have only just candled them the others have veins in the eggs, but i can't see anything in the other 4 i am gutted that i am going to be 4 down and plus some will be boys. i hope i can raise the other and have no casualties on the way, i will wait a few more days and candle them all again.

I'd leave them in until day 10 to be sure that they aren't just a little slower or a little shy about making themselves known. Sometimes there's a cold spot in the incubator which slows down development of any eggs sitting there. This is a really good website to help track your eggs:

Just follow it along and it tells you what's happening inside your eggs each day and it has really good candling photos to compare with your eggs.

i will leave it a bit longer, he did say that they had just started to lay again, so maybe the rooster did not get to fertilise all the eggs she laid. really enjoyed reading that link, thank you, some good information.

Candle again at day 10 and then discard any clear eggs or early quitters. Keep in mind that the more tint to the shell (e.g., brown, blue, green) the harder it is to see signs of development.

agreed. wait until day 10 just to be sure but don't wait to long after that though because if not fertilized then they can pass on bacteria to the others .

thank you for all your response, i will try again in a few days. i have moved the ones that i think are duds to the end of the incubator so they are all together, but not touching the fertile eggs.
