candle first?

Oh yes! No bearing on candling prior to setting... but you set duck eggs yesterday! Me too! My Pieds and Pekins just started laying again (Swedish are laying too, but an amorous young Pekin drake keeps breaking into the Swedish pen and mating the girls).
Nice to have someone here that set duck eggs the same day, a hatching buddy!

I set around midinight - wednesday night (29th) or thursday morning (30th) depending on how you look at it... I had ordered 6 pekin eggs and was sent 7, so I'm assuming the 7th is pekin as well, but i guess it could be anything.

YAY - glad to have a hatching buddy.

Oh. I can't remember if mine did that, i don't think they did but i will check for it the next time i candle.. Not sure which day I will yet. I'm very impatient but I'm trying to be good and not touch them, so we'll see.

Hi! That's a good candling chart --- got it bookmarked. Really though, if you don't candle your duck eggs often, you are missing out. My Duck embryos always seem to be 'more enthusiastic wigglers' than chicken embryos and more thrilling to candle (I can get an 'ohhh wow' from Hubby when I've called him to see --- and that's big). I use a coffee-can candler with a fluorescent bulb and it's adequate. There's nothing obviously visible the first few days, so no real reason to candle.
Counting down the days!

I did end up candling last night before bed. Not much to see but all looks good. There WAS 1 that looked like the wobbly air cell you had mentioned. We'll see, how it progresses. My husband thinks I'm crazy because I'm always checking temp and humidity and rotating them. He says its more work to hatch eggs than to "cook a baby" in my belly. LOL.... Once he can see them moving when I candle, he will love it.

Yes I candled mine last night and saw some were starting to get veins too..... I have to keep myself busy so I can't candle every day..... I got so excited to see the veins that I want to candle tonight too, but I told my husband we need to watch a movie or something so I am busy and not thinking about it.... I get so impaient but it is soooo exciting.
