I decided to go ahead and candle a group of my eggs that I set five days ago, to see if the horrendous heat during shipping had killed them all. I checked 20 of my eggs and ended up with two clearly infertile, and only about four that are questionable on development. The rest all had definite little hoppers in there! Well, at least, veining

I'm excited! We've had a rash of BAD luck here lately and I've been worried. So much is at stake with these eggs, as our chickens were slaughtered almost two weeks ago by a coyote. A lot of these eggs are rare/special breeds, too, so that ups the excitement/tension

If I guesstimate that about 5/20 eggs are not developing then I guess we're looking at about 60/80 hatching? I think that's about right, if the rates are consistent

. I'd be happy, honestly, with 30-40 hatching! I *NEED* 20 to hatch... figuring on 50% roos

Good luck! I took a chance getting eggs now too, which I set last thursday. Of my 9 shipped eggs, 2 were infertile, and only 1 was a quitter thus far. I wish you luck!

Hey, don't know if it would be an option for you but I have heard that donkeys are a great deterrant to coyotes and many cattle farmers around here use them.
