Candled day 18-dead chick inside

I was doing my final candling to take out all the infertile/dead eggs and 1 that had a chick in it on day 10 is clear, another has the dead chick in it. It is so sad seeing the poor little chick in there

Why is it that 1 had a chick in it and the other didn't? Different causes of death?

it happens sometimes, the ones with the chick that was developing is called a quiter. they just stop developing for some reason. when you candled them did they have alot of definite white spots on the egg??, this could indicate excessive bacterial growth. I just had two just the other day that quit on me so your not alone.

How could you tell that the chick was dead inside?

I've had some that just aren't as active as other chicks in the egg. I would have let him go full term.

I did leave it in there just in case.
