will it hurt to candle your eggs that are incubating at 16 days?

what is the latest you can candle without harming the chick?

Heaven's no! Candle away! I love candling all the way to day 18. Some people do it after that, but I don't like to mess with the temps. and humidity levels after day 18. If you go someplace really dark you might even see one of the chicks feet as they move around. That's my favorite part!

My fan stopped working and my son had pulled an egg out yesterday... so being the worrier that I am, I grabbed the egg that had already been out and candled it (day 20) and it cheeped at me!

No more candling past day 18 for me! LOL

I like to candle all of mine on day 18 when I place them into cartons for hatching. This lets me know I have all of the air cells up top and if there are any bad eggs.
