Candleing Tips and Tricks

There are a thousand little tips and tricks but what I always use now is the cool-lite egg candler and I dont even have to pick up the eggs out of the racks. I bought mine in Alexandria there at the big feed store. I don't know if you are clost to Alexandria. Remember, if you are new to turkeys, don't candle until about day 10.

I am nearsighted and can see very good when I candle eggs. I just use one of those cheap $2 led flashlight that are at the counter of automotive and hardware stores. They are about 4 inches long and less than a inch at the base. It is important that the flashlight fits flush on the round part of the egg. You need to be in the darkest place possible. No TV or computer screens on. No mirrors. At about 4 to 5 days you can see a dot with spider veins coming out from it. It looks just like a chicken egg but the veins are finer and the dot smaller. It should be about the size of a bottle cap.
