Hi,

I set 23 eggs on the 22nd. They are light brown. I attempted to candle today, but I couldn't see anything at all. I'm going to give it a few days and try again in total darkness. Any reason to panic yet?

nope... wait til at least day 7 to candle.. and if you're not using a nice bright LED type light then wait til day 10... even at that i will hang on to any questionable eggs until I candle at lockdown just to be sure

Brown eggs are really hard to candle. Does light pass through at all? I will go into a room with no light what so ever. Most if the time I can see in it. Bcm eggs and coturnex eggs I have never been able to candle.

try a REALLY bright LED light.. I use them on coturnix and maran eggs all the time with good success... (sometimes I need new batteries to see into the marans.. but I can always see veins with a good strong light)

Thannks. I'll wait a few more days and try a LED light in total darkness. The LED I have is really big. Like a hand held spot. That should work, but makes it awkward.

hey,

For your spot maybe make a mask out of light weight cardboard and tape over lens w/a egg sized hole or else you will just blind yourself and see nada

cheers

Alrighty then. Quickly checked 4 eggs while I was adding water. 3 were the lightest brown I could find. Of those I think two are developing. 1 was clear. The other was a medium brown color. I still can't see anything. Going to wait on that one. Can I assume that the clear eggs at this stage should be tossed? Thanks.

you can.. however you can also mark them as "clear" then put them back into the incubator and leave them until you get ready to lockdown the others.. then candle again.. if by lockdown they are still clear.. then you know 100% that they are duds

If that's the case maybe I'll just wait until lockdown to mess with them again. I imagine the less handling the better.
