I have my hatch in the incubator right now. I candled today and it's been about 10 days(have to check the calendar for exact date). I can see in the lighter colored eggs easily, but the darker one's are much harder for me. I have buff orpingtons as well as cuckoo marans and black copper marans. Any tips on candling them? I do it in a dark room and I can see the air pocket well in most of them, but the rest is very cloudy and I can't detect any veins. The cloudy part does seem to be growing though.

I just hatched 16 Cuckoo Marans. The eggs are very hard to see through. I wasn't able to see anything by candling until Day 10. I could see the air cell and the dark mass of the chick, but that was about it. I candled again at Day 17 and knew I had development because the black mass in the eggs was much larger. I was never able to see veining through the dark eggs. I have lighter colored eggs in my incubator now on Day 2, hoping to see some veining when I candle on Day 5 or Day 6.

This is my first time incubating. I have an assortment of unknown suprises plus some welsummers and morans and I cant tell a darn thing! Except the air pocket I figured that out. But other than that Im lost! So dark. The lighter ones I could see some veins but for all I know I have only 1 developing egg out of the 8 I candled

I'm in the same boat I have 5 black copper marans in the incubator along with some of my barred rocks and Buff brahma eggs and I see air pocket and a dark cloudy mass on day 7 but can't see veins. We will see what we get July 1st.
