Candling Day 12 Question

I have brown eggs and can't see very well when I candle. They have now been in the incubator for twelve days. When I candled three eggs just now, I saw a black space that covered about 1/4 of the top of the egg turned on its side. Is that a chick forming? If so, isn't that an awfully small abount for twelve days of incubatin?

that does sound small for day 12. BUT, if it doesn't smell leave it. Trust me. I killed a 7 day embryo because I thought i didn't see anything.
