I have nothing against you though, and im interested to see the end of this. But you must know ducks are social, and hatching only 1 egg wasnt the greatest idea... unless its a pekin, in which case they prefer people.

Did it hatch? If so, what species of duck was it? I agree with you, I would still save a developing embryo regardless of man-made rules. Obviously the nest had been abandoned by the mother due to predators.
