I wasn't going to candle until day 7, but we had a bit of a personal emergency tonight, and while I was waiting for things to resolve I needed something to take my mind off of it all...and so I candled at day 4. I have two incubators going, both hovobators with fans. One has a turner and the other I am hand turning. The one without the turner had some great looking eggs in it...tons of veining and all. The bator with the turner didn't look as good. If I used my imagination I thought I could see some veining, but nothing definite. The eggs were all set at the same time, and conditions in both have been identical...therm at 99.5 and humidity between 35-40%. What could be going on here? I'm really hoping when I candle again on day 7 things look better.

I didn't see veining until day 7. Are they different breeds? Make sure your thermometers are correct too!

The only thing I can think of is a difference in temp. You sure they're equal? Is one forced air and the other still air? That can make a difference as well.

Thanks! I checked the thermometers and they were showing identical temps before putting them in, but I think I'll switch them around just to see. They're both forced air, and for the most part the eggs are the same- mostly barnyard mix. I do have heritage Rhode Island reds in the incubator with the turner, and can't see anything in them. :( I kinda wish I split them up now. I'll just wait a few days and see what happens.

I won't lie, I'm kind of in a similar bind only I've got just one batch - my eggs are very underdeveloped, but the temp is spot on. Keep us posted, I'll do the same, here's hoping that their development ends up okay!
