So we created a candler and we tested it
We looked at some pictures to give us an idea if chick is live or dead inside. One that was said you needed to throw out was dots all over shell. We opened egg and there was a chicken inside!!!!!!!! We studied egg shell and found it was just design of the egg. One chicken wasted...aargh
How do you tell if natural egg shell design or candling pics??????now I am afraid to candle eggs, might kill another chick

I think candling takes experience. It never has to be done, but it is helpful to see if the chick is developing. But I would never open the egg if I had any doubts Some people never candle--they only throw out an egg if it smells bad, or after 25 days and no hatch.

Candling takes a little practice and the egg shells can complicate things sometimes! I usually candle on or after day 7 to see if the eggs are developing. By then you'll be looking for veins. If you can't see much on day 7, candle again on day 10. By then you start discarding any eggs that candles clear.

Here's some pics you can use for reference: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...g-candling-pics-progression-though-incubation
