Candling eggs?

Tell me about candling eggs...

will a household flashlight work?

at how many days will I be able to see something?

what will I see... if alive... and if not?

should it be dark around me... ie. dark room or night time?

how often would it be safe to do this and check on things?

do I shine a light up from the bottom, down from the top or from the side?

what good does this do and should I throw away any that appear dead?

That's all I can think of for now.

At night with the lights off with a good house flashlight will work fine. You can see things after 3 or 4 days but you should only candle around day 7, 14 an 18. Throw away any that smell as soon as you can but I wait till day 14 to throw away the clears if I even do at all. Your mainly looking for air cell size an for blood vessels an later on for blood rings. So shining in from the top does that pretty well but you will be looking from all sides because its human nature.
