Ok, so my broody Black Austrolorp is holding steady now @ day 7. I took these pics yesterday.

Here's what you're looking at: 2 brown eggs- by the broody girl herself, 1 green egg - by one of our EE's (don't know which of the 2 though), 1 cream colored egg -by our Ideal 236, all covered by the same giant blue Cochin. All eggs laid on the same day, set on same day.

From what little I've read, I think the green looks good, but the others= not really?
QUESTIONS:
1.Which, if any,look viable?
2.How much longer do I give the duds?
3.If I stick some hatching eggs under her, how will it affect the hatching process for them & the "early" hatchers, if any, that are already started?

What do y'all think ?

BUMP! Sorry - not trying to be impatient, but my hatching eggs just came in mail & I'm wondering what will happen...Y'all are the best! Thanks!

First time hatcher but I candled all of them at day 10 (today) and it was pretty obvious which were bad and good.

I call the green one good to iffy. Do you see any movement inside?

But I'd keep them all in until day 10 and if the bright ones still look like that at day 10 crack them open and see what's inside. Mine did not stink. There was nothing inside except a broken yolk, very liquidy.

Give the green one until day 10 and look for movement. You should see movement. I saw movement in mine at day 7 but day 10 it was more obvious.

Thank you so much! I did not see movement, & see no obvious veins either...I was kinda wondering about that. That's why I ordered the hatching eggs which just arrived - the fertility looks iffy whenever I break cook our eggs & look for "the signs".LOL I was excited by my first broody & wanted to get her some good ones to hatch out for a dear friend who's starting her first flock! Also, I've heard of some hens even sitting long enough to hatch duck eggs, so the extra time shouldn't be a absolute deal-breaker, huh?Any ideas on the staggered hatching dates (that is IF any of our own eggs were viable) appreciated as well! Thanks again!
