candling question..UPDATE pg 2 - 3 chicks so far!

I candled the 2 other eggs I suspected were bad and they still looked bad. So I opened them up. One had no development at all - broken yolk. The other had a dark "thing" in it about the size of a quarter and broken yolk. The others still under the hen have a big air cell and the rest is still very dark - the light doesn't penetrate it. Hoping those are good! That's all I saw in some of my eggs from last year, and all the ones that looked that way contained healthy chicks!

Will know this weekend for sure!

This evening will be 21 days - have been checking the hen and eggs nervously for the last day or so...This morning - YAY! - first saw an egg SHELL when I peeked under the hen's wing. Where's the chick, I thought! What peeks out from the other end of the hen, but a little GCM baby! Cockerel, I think, but I'm happy I have a chick! So, now I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the other 3 eggs remaining, and hoping for pullets! To be continued...

The 3 GCM eggs have hatched - now not sure about males vs females - think I have at least one of each.
New question - the remaining egg is an Ameraucana - do they take longer than GCMs to hatch? This evening will be the full 21 days.
