I have 2 eggs under a broody. Today is day 7. I candled them tonight and egg #1 is spot on with pics of day 7 that I have seen. My question is regarding egg #2. It has veins and an air pocket, but there is a black mass that takes up about a 1/4 or so of the egg. What does this mean? I would take a pic of it, but I'm not sure if my cam can take pics in the dark. I will try and see what happens. Here is the article from BYC that I am going by. It is a very good article, lots of pics.

Went out today to check on the chickens. This is what I found in the nest under Jackie. This was egg #1.

Well, now that I have lost Egg #1, here are a better pic of Egg #2. This is the one I think is questionable. Can anyone help? Now that I have looked ahead in the article that I am following, it seems that it might be at day 10. I wonder if the farmer I got the fertile eggs from may have given me one that was already started and one that was just laid that day.......

It does look like it may be further along then egg 1. Can you see the embryo moving in the egg when you candle it?

No, I didn't see any movement. I will just keep an eye on it. Hopefully, it wont get squashed like the other one.
