Ok, I set 18 eggs 9 days ago. I candled them today and 9 are clear and 9 are growing. My rooster for this pen was about 10 months old at the time that these were set. Is he just young and not breeding much or should I be worried about his fertility? Is it just a winter thing that my fertility rate is down? He was in the pen with 4 hens. Suggestions?

I'd pop the clear eggs open and check for fertility before deciding that was the problem. Could they have started to freeze and killed the chick or anything else happen from laying to the first few days of incubating?

Good point. I know that we have had extremely low temps over the last month. Down in the single to negative digits. Thanks. I'll check for that the next time I open the bator.

the weather probably has something to do with the fertility rate. if it's uber cold, then your little man may be slowing down. also, if the eggs got cold, that could affect the eggs maybe.

But I do see what you are saying. I'm giving everyone a break until spring now anyway.
