My royal palm eggs have been in the incubator for 19 days. What should they look like when I candle them?? I candled them tonight (ok I stuck a flashlight to the small end of them in a dark room

) and all I could see was that they looked clear toward the bottom and had a really dark blob at the top. no veins or anything.... Is that good or bad???

At 19 days, they are usually pretty dark with a visible air cell. You should see some vein network near the top (just below the air cell). Although it may depend on how bright your light is and how dark the room is.

I'm just using a little flashlight that I keep beside the bed in case of power outages. I really hope they are developing! My hen already hatched 1 clutch in the spring and only 2 poults have survived (I have the poults in a small 8x8 indoor coop) so I raided her nest this time and thought I would try my luck with the bator. She is back in the big goat pasture with the tom and has hidden her nest really well this time. I can't find it anywhere....so I have a feeling this is gonna be my only chance at hatching in the bator this year. Maybe it will work out and I will have alot of hens!

try putting the light at the air sac end of the egg.. you should at least see the air sac and a well defined line where it ends..

do not be alarmed if the air sac is not centered in the egg..
I mean , it could be lopsided looking..
