I placed eggs from a RIR and Australorp in the bator on March 5th at 11am. What is my hatch date?

As far as candling...I saw the pic's posted here on what to look for - and I viewed some videos on YouTube on candling.....now, the RIR's eggs I can see veins in some of them...others I cannot...does this mean that if I don't see veins, there is no viable chick in the egg?

What I did see is a dark mass...in some eggs, the mass would float to the top depending how I moved the egg...and in some eggs the mass looked like it was flickering the light in the flashlight...I'm using a very bright LED flashlight....

The Australorp's eggs puzzle me because I can't see any veins at all but the same thing happened with them as did with the RIR's eggs...a dark mass that just floats to the top and only in some eggs does that dark mass make my flashlight flicker...

Am I seeing something weird or is this normal?

Appreciate your time -

Barb

Your hatch date is the 26th, and seeing a dark mass right now is a bit odd. You should be seeing veins within clear, yellowy stuff. If that makes sense. You are only on day 4. Dark masses should not be there.

I figured as much..not sure why I'm seeing that dark mass...now my australorps eggs are darker than my rir's eggs...are veins visible in an australorps eggs??...and what's the flickering?? does that mean that the egg is boiling and getting ready to blow up??? I'm ready to toss those eggs out if that's what it means, because from what I've read here, a blown up egg stinks and kills the good eggs....

Ok, if you are seeing something small moving around, that is a chick. Honestly, I would leave them be until at least day 10. Step away from the bator.

You will have better luck around day 8-10, then you can start seeing better where the chicks are!

If anything is floating around, it's not right - but I would wait - you're only on day four, have patience little grasshopper!

hee-hee-hee...from what I read on this forum, people were candling at day four....but i'm stepping away and leaving the bator alone

....i'm just glad it doesn't mean they're going to explode...I'll candle again on day 10 - thank you all for your answers...
