I just now have got this recipe..and someone else im sure already knows it...

its called rock candy and my dad told me its the old fashoned way to make it

1/3 cup water
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
1/4 tea spoon food coloring
1/4 teaspoon flavoring any kind at all


mix all ingredients.
bring to a boil
place in cupcake pan ... dont use the paper cup cake things..i did and the paper gets stuck to it ... put on some wax paper otr somthing...

We used to make rock candy for christmas gifts when we were growing up..... After we brought it to the correct temp we would pour it out into a cookie sheets that had powdered sugar in them so it wouldn't stick. Then while it was still warm and soft we would cut it up into bite size pieces with kitchen shears. Worked great!

I still make rock candies for gifts! Funny, because they are requested all year long and the only time I make them is Christmas. I too make them on the cookie sheet with powdered sugar. So messy!! I also use flavoring oils for the flavor, it makes it much more intense. The cinnamon is my favorite.
