Canker or something else?

I just discovered that my broody hen on the nest has this growth on her face. I have researched and thought canker, but there aren't any yellow or white lesions in the mouth or throat. Suggestions and treatment ideas are welcome!

Open her mouth, do you see her tongue? I followed a thread a while back where a vent slit the skin on the bottom of her mouth. Her tongue fell threw and scabbing/dirt formed around the tongue. You could just see the tip poking out.
This almost looks like the same thing?

To the two previous posters: no bad smell. Tongue is fine. No odd colors, lesions or anything in the mouth or on the tongue.

There aren't any vets around here that do poultry. I want to keep her well, but its just going to have to be home remedies or things I can get OTC.

Is the mound hard and firm, or could it be some kind of scab because of an injury?
It's firm, but gives a little and bled some when prodded. It almost flaky looking. She's been sticking to the nest box pretty much all the time. She's sitting on 6 eggs.

Possibly. Should I try to remove some of it? This is odd and I have never seen it before.
Try to flake it a bit. If it flakes away, then take a cloth or paper towel and do a warm compress. You might want to bring a insulated cup out with you to hold warm water. If its a scab type thing, then it should come off with the warm water. Scrub it a bit.

I tried this and parts of the right side (a smaller growth) flaked off. No major bleeding, but she didn't like it too much. I let the larger growth around the bottom and left side sit under the compress, but it was pretty stubborn. I stopped after that, because she seemed to being getting a little stressed out.
