Not only am I dealing with a new chicken vent prolapse I wasn’t told about. I recently find this on one of my own chickens. She had some clear discharge coming from mouth and seemed to have a respiratory issue but i thought it was resolved with vetrx. Noticed hair missing from under her beak the other day. Seems to be some yellow sore like spots in her mouth too. My other chickens do not have any signs of them. Any suggestions? I did buy 4 in 1 powder off birdpal.

What is your location? Fowl pox is usually only a problem in hot weather when there are mosquitoes out. Have you dealt with dry fowl pox recently? It could be canker which is carried by pigeons in contaminated water, if there is a bad odor from the beak.

No odor from what i can smell. I’m located in SWFL. The mosquitos have been bad lately. I’ve been keeping them contained in the coop/run they have only come out twice to graze for a month or two now. I give them a lot of fruits and veggies. They have a tarp over the coop so no droppings get through. I did find some palm rats in the coop at night but have tried to get them out right away. Haven’t seen them since.

I would assume that it is canker if you have not seen any dry pox scabs on your chickens combs or wattles. Disinfect your waterers and feeders and separate the one who is being treated. Let us know if you see any fowl pox or notice a bad odor from her beak.

That has ronidazole in it doesn’t it? That is one drug that treats canker. Another one is metronidazole here that also treats it:

I haven’t dealt with canker. It is contagious to your other chickens. If you lose or cull the bird, I would get a necropsy done by your state vet lab to confirm exactly what disease it was. Here is a list of state vet labs:

Looks like it’s not getting better. Have been on meds for a week. Going to try to take her to the vet

I have not ever treated canker, but sometimes the yellow lesions need to be removed. They do bleed a lot, when removed, too. Many people cull chickens with canker. That keeps it feom spreading to your other birds. It is also the best way to confirm the right diagnosis if the body is sent to the state vet for a necropsy.
