Cannibal hen!

I have a Buff Brahama hen setting. Started out with 20 eggs. I had them marked so I could remove whatever 'extras' were laid daily in *her* nest. Slowly, the marked ones disappeared. I moved the entire hen/nest and yesterday she ate FOUR of her eggs. She is now down to 6 (due to hatch next week) What on earth is WRONG with this chicken? GROSS!

(She has plenty of feed, oyster shell, cat food, water, fresh greens daily from my greenhouse )

Some hens just do this, and never get over it. But if she is setting, they may have been bad eggs. Sometimes they do this to get rid of the bad ones. If they rot the smell can lead predators to them, this stops that from happening.

Good luck I hope she's only eating the bad ones.

YUK! I wouldn't have thought 14 would have been 'bad' , but maybe so! Hopefully the rest won't explode in my incubator and crap up the 100+ quail eggs!
