Canning for myself & my Ducks

That's what works with a canner. You add salt to the jar, the ones for the ducks are marked with a D, and no salt.
Thank you for that was a good reminder.
Unless pickling or canning a recipe, using salt is for flavor and may be left out. I rarely used salt in my canning. My ducks are picky though, so I don't think they would appreciate the effort. ;)
Is that really how it works? I could absolutely be wrong, my pressure cooker/canner came with instructions not to mess with recipes for food safety. I thought that salt also helped with preservation.

Yes. Look up no salt canning. I rarely use salt when canning.

Wow, I did look it up and I'm so surprised. Not only did I learn that salt is unnecessary but that sugar is also unnecessary. I don't use sugar so I haven't been canning fruits thinking sugar was required for food safety, since that booklet that came with my canner told me not to mess with the recipes! Lol!!

And now I take back my initial post. @carolinabeve you should can for your ducks!! That's the sweetest thing I've ever heard of. I bet they would love tomatoes, corn, and peas! Maybe squashes, too. <3
