That's what works with a canner. You add salt to the jar, the ones for the ducks are marked with a D, and no salt.

Is that really how it works? I could absolutely be wrong, my pressure cooker/canner came with instructions not to mess with recipes for food safety. I thought that salt also helped with preservation.Unless pickling or canning a recipe, using salt is for flavor and may be left out. I rarely used salt in my canning. My ducks are picky though, so I don't think they would appreciate the effort.![]()

Wow, I did look it up and I'm so surprised. Not only did I learn that salt is unnecessary but that sugar is also unnecessary. I don't use sugar so I haven't been canning fruits thinking sugar was required for food safety, since that booklet that came with my canner told me not to mess with the recipes! Lol!!Yes.
