Well I boiled all my jars and lids and bands. Now I am two jars empty, bands and lids were in the hot water for a little while and I dont know if I should throw away the lids because it has been in hot water or is it still safe to reheat and use??????

Canned tomato sauces, spagetti sauces and pickles. What a work LOL! Self satisifaction, isn't it??

they say not to use them but i do

happy canning

As long as the lids haven't been used on a jar yet, yes, you can "re" use them. I'd say they haven't even ever been used yet, just prepared. It's the action of the lids being sealed to a jar that makes them inappropriate for a second use.

No they never been used.. I dont use canning lids again after it has been used on jars. I made too many jars, better have too many than not enough and have to wait to boil them back up again.

You are not to 'boil' the lids. I have them sit in hot water only. Bands don't need to be in water though. I have one or two left over once in a while. I just dry them off and use them on the next batch. Never had a problem.
It is nice to see all those jars ready to feed your family isn't it! It is great satisfaction. My DH says we wont starve because we can eat beans, pickles and tomatoes. lol

If I over calculate how many lidsI will need and have already sterilized them I just dry them off and put them back in the box. Never had a problem of them not sealing.

Great, sorry it was NOT boiling lids, just boiling the jars and bands. No where did the Ball Canning book said about re heating lids. Its a good thing I asked because I hate to waste a perfectly un-used lid!
