I am completely new to the world of raising chickens and I got 10 babies last week from a local woman who specializes in all different types of chickens and birds. I have lost 5 chicks and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong! They have no feces blocking vents, they have clean water with electrolytes and vinegar everyday, they have pine bedding and the temperature is perfect. They all of a sudden will act extremely lethargic and unable to stand (falling or tilting their whole body to one side.) Then the next thing I know it dies. I have no idea why or what to do and need any advice I can get!!! HELP

I only give my baby chicks fresh water. I've never added anything to it and haven't lost a chick yet. I do remember reading somewhere that electrolytes can kill baby chicks if they too much, but I don't know how much is too much. I'm sorry you're losing your chicks though!

I originally started with fresh water and two died in the first 48 hours, it was suggested that I try electrolytes. I just hope I don't lose anymore!

! Great to have you aboard! Sorry to hear about your losses! I'm wondering if they don't have some disease. I think you should post in the link below. Good luck to you!

I'm giving them starter feed from our local feed store, the same kind that they were eating when I bought them.

also check the protein level on you feed I had some quail that I hatch do the same thing . turns out the needed more protein when the are growing feathers - so they looked fine.then one day they started doing the same thing u r talking about . they where eating a lot but still where actually starving to death. well good luck!

Ive always used the packets of electrolytes from Tractor Supply. What are you using? Ive also read that baby chicks can get wry neck but never had a small chick of mine get it. Just went through it with a 10 week old. Read about it to see if the symptoms are the same as what yours had. Hope the rest stay healthy.
