We have 2 black hens in our flock and have never known their breed (feed store we bought them from didn't even know). They're almost 18 months old now and lay light tan, sometimes speckled eggs. They're a bit more petite than the rest of our flock, but not bantam size. They're mostly black and their feathers have an iridescent blue sheen to them...

Black Sex Links!
YES!!!! You're absolutely right! Thank you so much!!! Our mystery is finally solved. ;-)

Looking at pics of Black Sex Links online and they're dead ringers for our ladies. And right on the money about personality - these ladies don't like to be held, but are so inquisitive. We used to call them the "beady eyed moochers" when they were little because my son and I would eat lunch down the chicken coop and they would always come up looking for food. We would have to be careful not to turn our backs, because if we did they would steal the food right off our plates. ;-)

I'm glad you like them! I've never raised them, but they are definitely my favorite looking production hybrid. Such beautiful variations in pattern :)

Do you have any roosters?
