I hatched 5 Salmon Faverolles almost a week ago. Bought the eggs off Ebay. They were all hatched when I woke up, except one chick. It had some very loud and distressed chirps coming from its shell. The egg was shaking around and trying to spread a part, but wouldn't break open. I immediately grabbed a washcloth, and ran it over hot water. I placed the egg in the cloth to peel the shell a part. Managed to successfully hatch the egg. It definitely seems like a runt. It seems smaller than the other birds. But maybe its because it can't stand up all the way like the others.

The flock seems to be healthy but this chick was preferring to sit more than the others. It wasn't putting weight on its feet so its toes were still curled. It was trying to walk like the others but kept falling from not spreading its feet. Ive been giving it time because I told myself it must be sore from an exhausting night of trying to hatch.

Everyday has been better and better. One leg is now in full use. The toes are spread out on both feet now, and it's trying its hardest to keep up with the others! I'm just starting to get really worried though because it's still not putting weight on one of its legs. It tries to put the weight on but ends up hopping on one leg to walk. I would like to do something before too much time passes and it develops wrong. Any idea what could be wrong with this leg? Splayed leg? Sore/pulled tendon? I don't want to make it worse by doing improper treatment for it :(

It struggles eating and drinking with the other chicks being so hyper. It falls over easily. So I have separated it from the flock. It's sad though because the chick cries out. It hates being alone. I've been crushing up little Rooster Booster pellets into its morning scrambled eggs. Any advice would help. I'll attach pictures of how it stands. And yes, I gave it a stuffed animal. It likes to peck at it, and use it as a pillow lol.

What would you do if this was your baby?

Hi Emily,
The chick looks like it has a dislocated hip joint which sometimes happens. I had one in the hundreds I've hatched or owned and it did not thrive or do well despite our best efforts. You could take it to a vet, or at least show the pictures, to see if they can correct it and what it might cost. Or humanly cull.

Also, no I don't think i have given B2.. any suggestions on a good product
Okay so I don't know how fast those results are for the #15 advice, but I think it helped! It immediately started kicking wood shavings around when I sat it down. Like it had been dying to do it! Still seems weak on the leg, but ill post an update after I give it some time!

Riboflavin or vitamin B 2 is found in human super B complex vitamins, 1/4 tablet dissolved in water or food daily. Poultry Cell, and some chick vitamins contain riboflavin as well. The one picture looks somewhat like slipped tendon, but sometimes it is hard to tell which one until later. Varus or valgus deformity and twisted tibia is also a possibility.
