No, worms kill quicker. I have two 5 year old hens from my original purchase of three day old chicks still going strong. A snake got the third 4.5 years ago, then I got the snake.

I was going to switch them to layer feed, but two are still rather young and I asked on here and was told to continue the grower feed and give oyster shells for the older girls if they need it. I honestly don't know how old they are since I didn't get them as babies. The rancher told me they should be laying by the end of September. Two of the four still barely have any combs or wattles. One has pronounced wattles and combs, but she doesn't seem all that big. The third is in btwn. I'll get layer feed when this new bag of grower is gone.
Is there a reason you recommend Safeguard over Ivermectin? Just curious. I'm trying to learn.
Do I dose Safeguard just once like Ivermectin or more than once because it's not as strong (I think that's what I read)? Will it kill all kinds of things and eggs too?

Yes, those were exactly the type of tapeworm that one hen had. They are also 'rice' shaped looking too. You're lucky you dont have to toss eggs because they arnt laying yet. The only reason I stated safeguard over ivermectin is cost, safeguard is cheaper here where I live. Ivermectin has an advantage over safeguard in that it kills most lice/mites on chickens....that's basically the only difference. Your choice which you want to use, they are both excellent wormers. Just worm them once since you've already used wazine. The worm larva will be killed by either wormer. Keep in mind these are poisons you're giving your chickens to eradicate internal parasites and both do their job well. I didnt know the ages of your chickens. When one of your hens lays her first egg, switch from grower to layer crumbles...that's how I did it and never had any problems. Are they all the same age? And do you know what breed they are? Some breeds lay later than others. Keep asking questions, it's the best way to learn and if I dont know the answers, someone else will jump in and answer them.

They were supposedly the same age, but clearly they are not. All are RIR.
Thanks for the help. I'll probably just get the Ivermectin since it was under $6 and it kills most stuff. So one pea sized dot on a piece of bread and I'm good to go I guess. I will make them scrambled eggs and continue to give them yogurt.

I use the ivermectin pour on or the "iver on" is cheaper on my birds 4 times a year. No more mites
and no internal parisites.
