Texas Hill Country!
Some of my chickens have dark brown gooey smelly poop. I am not sure if this is due to the 100 degree weather or if they need to be wormed. I was going to worm as a precaution (someone on byc already recommended that) but I can't find any wormer at any of the feed stores. I went to three today. I am going to keep looking! any suggestions?

sometimes its the feed itself. My chickens poop turned totally normal after I took them off commercial feed and switched to cracked corn supplemented with free ranging, various beans, and occasional oyster shells.

You can also order food grade DE (Diatomaceous Earth) to worm them without chemicals. And you can use it in the coop to keep down mites and bugs. Just make sure it is food grade, or else it can have lead or other hazardous things in it.

If you're interested try

how do you know its worms My chx poo
changed when I changed their feed.from starter to layer.crumbles.
I raised them on 2table SP. Applecider vinegar to a gal of
water . and still do.and they all seem healthy.
would they show being out of sorts if having worms.

ON DE
the fact that when it rains DE falls to the ground
such as using it on the garden
then you put more DE on the plants so the soft skinned bugs will be knicked by the diadems of De and dehydrate and die

IE: this only means that the DE does stick to the animals hair if it is sprayed on their bodies but it then dries and is doing its work
water does not disolve the diadems of DE

IE: with chickens it goes to work in the body as it goes down into the gut
thus DE works to knicj the soft skinned worms and they dehydrate and are absorbd by the chickens body as protein

so PLEASE READ AND REMEMBER
there are so many tales about DE that many have not really used it and studyied it

the amt is 2 parts De to 10 parts feed daily for chickens

the cayenne pepper is 3 tbsp per gallon of feed daily

but the DE will work and should help te adult worms to be killed

it will not kill the worm larve in the blood stream which is done by chemical wormers first in the blood stream
and then using De daily will kill the adult worms

any other questions email me

also on the comment by the BYC member as to feeding beans to her chickens
for the rest of you
REMEMBER ANY KIND OF BEANS NEEDS TO BE COOKED TO FEED TO CHICKENS

OTHERWISE THEY WILL BE POISONED BY BEANS UN COOKED
any kind of the hard uncooked beans is bad for chickens
always cook them first

any questions feel free to email me
