Surprised the heck out of me. Yesterday I was putting up some plastic weather break for the chicken, while they were free ranging. As evening settled in, I watched as the herded themselves towards the coop. It's getting dark, and we're just finishing dinner, before I go down to lock them up for the night. and who shows up at the back door talking the usual conversing tone that chickens do. I understand what they're telling me. "The door on the run is closed, and we can't get in to go to bed." (and the say chicken are dumb) Yup! I had locked the gate, and forgotten to reopen it. That's the first time I had to escort them back to the house, and roost with the aid of a flashlight. I'm thankful I understand what the tell me sometimes... Jim

Uh oh. I left the lid off of the 5 gallon bucket....that is full almost to the top ...with scratch. My bad.

Yup, chooks certainly do have a way of getting what they want! People should give them more credit.

I don't think you can really appreciate a chicken (and how smart they are) until you own them and spend time with them. Why, even my goldfish communicates with me using body language!
