In my experience with leveling things I have found that it is best to set one corner and then work from there in a circle. Do not move that first corner! Set one side and then level the others from there. Also, when working with wood it is best to have a longer level, a 4 footer should work well so that you don't see the variances and imperfections of the wood that you would see with a shorter level.
