Mareks can take weeks and even months to rear it's ugly head, just to give you an idea of it, In august my head hen started acting off first sign that I noticed was blood and yellow droppings, kept her away from the others but during that week I also noticed another one was being chased off by the hens, made an appt with the vet and that same day lost the head hen. Claire came across as healthy per the vet just underweight abit. told to keep her warm and it would be ok to return her to the flock. I did but brought her in at night to make sure she was eating and kept warm. two days later I pulled her from the flock, 6 weeks later I lost her to Mareks. during this time I noted a hen having it's tail feathers pulled because they didn't want her on the roost or so I thought. I noticed this hen was not able to get in the coop and once in was chased out by the others and she was laying rubber eggs. I pulled her and brought her in. she had issues with an egg that would not come out, and we had just lost claire the day before. Vet removed two eggs. She was in alot of pain but did ok once the eggs were removed, but we found a tumor that covered the vent, it's growth was rapid as she had laid two days before this. anyway we had the vet euthanize her. Right now just monitoring the girls, and watching for oddities which we see now and again. per the vet it could take, weeks or months but eventually we will lose our entire flock to it.
