I have nine 5 month old Narragansett turkeys I am raising free range. I have a 10 acre vineyard. My neighbor (a very nice family) came to my house today and let me know my turkeys are wondering off into his property during the day and making a mess on their driveway. He wanted to know if there is any way I can try and keep them away? He also owns 10 acres but he runs a horse facility. He said the turkeys dont bother the horses at all but he doesnt like cleaning up after them.

I am torn because I want to keep them but not at the sake of caging them (they do have a enclosed roost house they go in at night that I shut)....anyone have any ideas???? HELP!!!

Tell your neighbor this:

Come November 23rd, whoever has the most turkey poop on their driveway gets a Thanksgiving turkey.

Thats funny...for real.

I wonder if the BBQ idea would work? I mean if he takes to shooting one or two would they get the hint and stay away? My lab got a hold of one when they were young and now they stay away from her???? They dont apear to be very smart though.....duh!!!

You could be honest about your turkey deal and tell them you don't want to have to fence in your property. Have them help you come up with a solution.

1. Let them know you'll provide a free turkey, plucked and cleaned, for Thanksgiving if they tolerate the turkeys.

or

2. Offer to go clean their driveway every other day or once a week (whichever they choose) and DO IT, without fail.

or

3. Make a covered run for your turkeys.

or

4. Get a really small shock collar.

How about that electric poultry fencing? you could pasture them in 1 area for a few days, then move the fencing to the new area? I would certainly offer them a thanksgiving dinner for all the fuss of course.
