Hi I'm hatching eggs for the first time now and just got some eggs from a friend. He has a Dominque roo and one dominque hen the rest of his hens are rir's,unforunatly he has no idea who's eggs are who's so I don;t have a clue what I'm going to get.
I have three new chicks in the bator with four more eggs pipped, but so far all the chicks are pure black, does anyone know if both of these combo's dom vs dom x rir will hatch out pure black?

Thanks Dan

the pure dominiques will hatch out black with a white dot on their head....not sure about the RIR babies, but I'm sure a genetic guru on here will let you know

some of these people seem to know all possible outcomes for different chicken crosses

If they're pure black, no white dot on the head, then he's got something other than a Dominique rooster. . .

Barred x Barred = Barred

Barred x Red Columbian (Production Reds) = Barred, perhaps with some gold leaking through. Still, the chick would have a white dot on its head.

I'm guessing since the OP is new and doesnt know what to look for yet then they probably do have their little grey head spots.

But yes, the pure Doms and the crossed ones will both be barred and you most likely wont be able to tell them apart until some of them start to get red leakage if they even do.

Thanks for the quick replies and yep your right now that the first one is starting to dry out and fluff up it does look like it has the spot on the head. well now have 4 chicks and three pips so i guess will just have to wait and see.It doen't really matter I was just wondering and hoping that their not all roo's and at least decent layers.

Thanks Dan

You really can't see them well enough for pictures in the bator BRINSEA ECO 20 BUT WILL TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO POST PICS WHEN I move them to the brooder.

The RIR cross could have a straight comb that would be the first way to weed some out..that is as long as the Doms are really Doms and not Barred Rocks as everyone in my woods calls them Dom's

If he's a friend have you seen the chickens to know for sure they are Dom's-Rose comb not straight Even the crosses could have a rose comb though so that isn't an indicator of being pure
RAREROO has the genetics done for you on the color
