Can't wait to get chickens

Hi there, I have wanted chickens for years! This will be the year I do it, I have to get a permit from my city first and then the coop building will begin! I live just east of the metro Portland, OR area, work full time but my husband is retired and will be the handy person who will probably do most of the building of the coop. I checked out the book from the library "Backyard Chickens Guide to Coops and Tractors" which of course, referenced the backyardchickens.com website. Lots of good stuff here and I am anxiously awaiting taking my permit & 50 bucks <sigh> to the city after the holiday weekend.

Sounds like you're doing your homework on your chicken project. We found that doing our research on how to build the safest possible coop has saved us a lot of worry and grief. I've heard too many stories of people coming out to their coop in the morning to find that their flock was decimated by a predator in the night.
