You know, those 1922 illustrations are far better than the modern color photos on the website I listed before. You can actually see what they're talking about. My cockrel is 4 months, so I suppose he may be past the point of caponizing? My main thing was wanting to know if it would lessen his crowing, but nevertheless this is very interesting.
 
I just got the MM catalog, and I see the caponizing kit you talked about Slim. If anyone is interested, it comes with instructions, knife, rib spreader, slotted spoon, probe, forceps, "S" hooks and cord for $47.90 Just thought I'd share.

There is a thread on BYC about caponizing that has a lot of great information and experiences. I don't know if you have seen it:

There are several BYC folks, myself included, that have begun caponizing. Some have mentors who have taught them how to do the procedure, while some, like myself, have learned by by reading and doing.


I found a historical document that is quite interesting to read about caponization:

The photos in this article aren't great, but I found when I printed the article that there was some improvement in clarity, but by no means crystal clear.
