Care to explain *roosts* and why we need them?

Speckled, about how far apart are the roosts? I'm trying to explain to DH what it is we need as far as different heights for the big girls and the bantys.

Chickens roost so that they are less likely to get mites, fleas, other insects infestations, as well as to decrease their odds of getting killed by a predator.

It will also get them high enough so they can see out the window and won't get spooked when you come in the coop.
