Care When Away from Home

Finally found our dream acreage and am ready to start raising a very few chickens. The property comes with a large heated and well ventilated barn-shaped Morton building with a cement floor and drain, and I plan to build an indoor coop and run area in one corner of that building. When home, I'll open the door to the coop/run area, and let the ladies and gentleman walk to the outside door to wander free range around the property. However, when on vacation (say for a week or so), I don't want them outside. If given ample room, will they be happy in the indoor run area as long as the temperature is controlled, there is daylight coming through the windows, and they are given fresh food and water? I can probably find a neighbor child to do that much, but would not want him or her to have the added responsibility that outdoor ranging would involve. Thanks!
