caring for bull calves??

How much acreage you'll need depends on the quality of the pasture, (which varies wildly), and only you will know how good it is. Perhaps you can keep a steer on an acre in some places, I doubt it year round without any kind of supplemental feed though, and they're bound to require at least a great deal of hay. Depending on the breed and size you require, you're probably looking at having them for a year at least. Here we don't run cattle per acre, we run acres per cattle

They may be horned but not showing yet. At this age the horns haven't usually grown big enough to see through their thick coat, but you can feel them and see the buds if you part the hair.

If those calves are weaned they may have been dehorned too. As Cara said, feel their heads and see if the buds are there. Also, ask the farmer you are getting them from.
