Castles, ruins and gatehouses... Pic heavy.

And some more pics. First is a ruin in a small village, Ballyvourney, Co Cork

And some close-ups of another ruin in the middle of an old graveyard, Kilgarvan Co Kerry

Most of them are too faded. I love these old grave yards, but walking round them is hazardous. Many graves are barely marked by small rocks, so I spent more time watching where I step than looking at the details. The Irish seemed to not care much about keeping their graves in neat rows either, I'd hate to know how many graves I accidentally stepped on.

I would worry of cave ins, that would freak me out like no tomorrow!!

Shoot, I haven't thought of that

I'd better be extra careful in future.

Sumi, I just found this, WOW! Great pictures and thanks for sharing them. When I see such 'ruins' I can't help but reflect upon those who built, lived, and died there. Oh what stories those standing stones could tell.

That's a big part of the reason I love them so much. They just capture the imagination! I would love to buy a ruin here to restore when we get round to buying a property, but some of these buildings are beyond rescuing. Unless you have a huge budget! I think we may go for something a little more modern "in need of renovation" though, depending on finances, the property market and if I can talk DH into a small castle somewhere. I saw a lovely up in Co Galway for a VERY reasonable price
