Hi, I'm new to goats and I adopted 2 baby goats, brother and sister, in June, 2 months old. Clifton and Fiona. The woman I got them from did the rubber band castration on Clifton before we picked them both up. Now, in October, he is crazy humping poor Fiona and has the muskiest of scent. Did the castration go wrong ? And if so, should I bring him to the vet and have it redone? Or, do I just have a horny smelly goat that will go thru this every fall? Thanks and I appreciate any feed back.

Wethers don't develop the smell... :( Check the scrotum. There could also be a retained testicle. That can happen if people band them young, and do not check for both being present. I hope they just screwed up the banding, and that he does NOT have a retained testicle, because fixing that means surgery.

In the meantime it's possible you have a pregnant goat. :(

My wether humps, but he does not smell at all. If he looks flat back there where the scrotum was, I'd say have a vet check him for a retained testicle. If he still has goods flopping around, well, maybe the band broke? We always do two rubber bands in case one breaks.

If he stinks a testicle escaped. They are slippery when the kids are small and they easily go up into the body cavity. It happens if you aren't careful. He will smell year round not just in fall. You will need a vet to remove it now.

Oldhenlikesdogs is right. If both testicles were removed, he wouldn't smell and be acting like a buck. Right now he smells and is acting like a buck because he is one. Your choices are to put up with him the way he is, have the testicle removed by a vet, find someone who needs a teaser buck, or eat him.

I agree with all posts, he has at least 1 testicle still and is a buck. A vet should be able to get it if it was just missed, if it was retained (as in still up in the body cavity) then it could require surgery.

Welcome to BYC though
