We ended up with four Roosters and five hens from a straight run. All our chickens are friendly and we've become attached to them. I read that roasters could be castrated and stay with the flock. Is this possible. Does anyone have any experience with this? We would like to keep all the birds.

There are several threads here on "caponizing". It's not for the faint of heart and very dangerous for the bird, unless you are lucky enough to find a vet who will perform the surgery for you.

Good luck!

Yes. It is possible to castrate (caponize) a rooster. I believe if you are going to do it, it is suggested that you do it prior to them starting to crow. Here is a pretty graphic thread detailing what is involved:

Could you make a separate coup and run for them - a bachelor pad, so they won't be overbreeding your hens? If it is out of sight of the girls, the roosters shouldn't be fighting among themselves. I know other folks have done this, if they don't want to rehome the boys or eat them. I hope it is a doable alternative for you. Welcome to Backyard chickens.
