Dang that’s a terrible position to be in - so very stressful- that storm is going to be big just leave - you may have to save as many as you can with the bathroom idea - any other rooms you can sacrifice for the storm? There is nothing more to be done with a storm like this. My husband is an analyst it’s predicted to potentially be a 5 at one point. Be safeJust great! Just heard on the news that the hurricane's projected path about to pass within 10 miles of me. will be a Cat 3 Major Hurricane.
Looks like I'm in for a whole lot of chicken losses since I have nothing big enough to protect them in.
I love my birds but I'm getting out of Dodge for this storm, And I can't fit over 100 birds in the bathroom.
About the only thing I can think if is nail up some pieces of plywood on the windward side of the pen. But I'm afraid even that would probably get blown away with the wind speed they are projecting. I guess I could start culling and processing and buy a bunch of ice. They are already talking about a good chance of power failure for up to a week, so the freezer is out of the question. If I could get them all frozen before the storm, I could keep them on ice till it passes then hang them in the smoke house till the power comes back on.
I'm starting to freak out a bit.
I don't know what the heck to do.

I had just opened a new store in Gulfport there and rode out Katrina in 2 houses in Waveland. The first got inundated with the storm surge, and we waded, hopped, and swam to the second story of a neighbor home to finish the storm out. I can't forget the huge 12" I-beam girders from signs all twisted up.Dangerous storm, yes, but there's a bit of exaggeration going on IMO. It's definitely not the strongest storm to ever hit the area; just the FL panhandle. Camille clocked a wind speed of 190 mph before the gauge broke, and Pass Christian (where it hit) is not far at all from Pensacola (the western tip of the FL panhandle). I had to take an alternate inland route to get back to New Orleans (because coastal I-10 was impassable) and saw vertical steel girders bent at a 45-degree angle.
