Cat having behavioral issues - not peeing in catbox

My year-old male Persian was having similar problems with urinating in a couple of different spots outside his litter box. I took him in to the vet, who ran a bunch of tests, and it turns out my cat is diabetic. The diabetes was causing some kind of a chain reaction in his system that contributed to sediment and a UTI. I'm going to have to put him on a special diet. Right now, he's on antibiotics to deal with the infection, and I'm hoping his habits will return to normal.

Good luck with your cat.

The vet gave my male neutered cat birth control pills- LOL- he was alwasy very loving- but he became even mORE loving- it was so funny. It did change his behavior- it was for just a few weeks. ANd he would only do it afterwards when we left him home alone ( with a pet sitter coming to feed and clean the kitty box) and after we came home for a time or two.TIl he was 16- and he began having ministrokes and then he sometimes wouldn't know where he was- and would even -at the end just go in his sleep. That was bad since he slept next to me in the bed, but he was my baby boy. I started putting a bed protector (flanneliized rubber sheet thing)down under his spot with some old recieving blankets just in case. He was a good kitty. He loved to go for car rides- so I would take him with me to the Hardees ( only fast food restuarant in town) and the bank.

My Phat Kitty was on Depo Vera shots for a little while ..for the same "overly amorous" condition

It was a little unsettling to wake up with 22# of Tom Cat on your foot or hip or head ...wailing his fool head off ..you know, the way amorous kitties do ...mmhmmmm... and doing that "thing" they do...

I'm fortunate that my Vet at that time, was also a personal friend ...cuz it was very embarassing for all involved

To the OP... I hope you find out what's going on with your kitty and can resolve it without incident.

Another thing that it could be is FUS ( feline urinary syndrome). It is most often found in neutered males. I had a cat that had it. Very painful for him. Sometimes can be controlled with diet and sometimes meds are needed. It eventually destroyed his kidneys and we had to put him to sleep. If the litter box change doesn't work ask your vet about the UTI and FUS.
