Cat help please!

TY for caring BUT cat husbandry calls for all pet cats(pet=barn, working, inside, outside, whatever) to be spayed/neutered and if you can't/won't afford it then you should not have the cats. This isn't mean it is a fact. Your neighbor is the true bad person. Most farms take better care of their food animals then they do their working cats/dogs(good animal husbandry for cat/dog is s/n) Again...just stating facts. The kits wouldn't have needed saved if the neighbor had followed this philosophy. I have worked with dogs and cats my whole life and am horrified at people that still think its cute to see kittens born at the farm. My farm practices proper animal care(and I know excellent purebred dog breeders-needs a ton of knowledge and care of any offspring that leave their homes) If you won't find a way to at least get the remaining cats fixed then its of no help. I personally hate dogs but go out of my way(and I am technically poor) to help any strays that show up. I have even helped trap stray dogs(who, again, I don't like) to send to rescues. Unfortunately there are just tooooo many kittens available to get the problem slowed down.

Again, someone who can't read. They aren't old enough to be fixed yet and will be when they are of age. I've already stated that.

The neighbor is a good person as well. These are cats that city people drop off in the country to fend for themselves. Being a kind person he feeds them. The kittens, while born on his property, were not his, and neither was the mother. Whoever dropped them off is the person who should receive your scorn. The neighbor already suffers enough for his kindness. He can't stand to see half starved cats running around so he feeds them. Then when they start looking for him he knows it's only a matter of time before they get hit by a car. He feels like he is in a lose lose. And before you start saying HE should take them to the pound, these cats tend to be people skittish. These kittens aren't because we got them at a super young age. The mothers don't tend to let you touch them.

Sorry I missed their age and the stating of the fact they will all be neutered BUT again, not being mean. When cats are dumped on my farm if they are intact they go for cheap euthanasias(I have worked with animals my whole life and am excellent at trapping). Whomever dumped them is unknown and whomever has the care should trap/neuter/release all or trap/take to kill shelter. Just facts. I have much pain over having to euthanize but I refuse to let country cats continue to breed. Very easy to stop[ if people will work together and either come up with the money to fix them or take to euthanize. I am poor and can't currently have dumps fixed and am kind enough to realize its not the cats fault. They have no clue. If I see a loose unknown cat I look at as they have the mentality of a 4 yr old child and don't understand not breeding but SOMEONE needs to help(and since they are cats euthanasia is legal although I cry my heart out every time because I have no choice. none) Again-not trying to make you angry. just facts. SOMEONE has to step in to help them and they're in your hood.(btw whenever I HAVE managed to afford spays/neuters they do them at 12 weeks of age/2 lbs-whichever comes first and trapping a hungry kitten is a piece of cake with a havaheart, if you can manage to find some for rent or whatever)

This is all well and good but this thread seems to have been off topic from the start. I'm asking for advice on training the kittens I have. That is it. Nothing else is being sought here.

Sorry people are being so judgmental. I'm not a cat person so I have no advice but I think you've done a great job and a huge kindness to save these animals and try to give them a home. Good luck in this challenge I hope they learn to stay in the barn and I hope people stop jumping down your throat and to conclusions without even taking the time to read your posts to completion.

Ignore the cats when they come to the house. They have learned that if they come to the house and yell loud enough, you will carry them back to the barn and feed them. You are not training them..... They trained YOU !!

I always knew the animals were smarter than I was.
